Bert Bender is Senior Counsel in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Philadelphia office, where he counsels clients on state and federal privacy and security regulations. Bert advises clients on the legal implications of their data before, during, and after a privacy or security event. He has guided businesses, non-profits, and government and municipal entities of all sizes through hundreds of suspected and confirmed privacy and security events, including representing clients in litigation and in response to government investigations from state and federal regulatory agencies arising from privacy and security events. Bert also counsels clients on implementing policies, procedures, and processes for managing and protecting their data and for responding to suspected misuse of data.
Bert is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he was member of the lightweight rowing team, and Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. Prior to his law career, he served five years in the Marine Corps as a Communications Officer, including a tour in Iraq. Bert often relies on the insights and experiences he gained as a Communications Officer to guide his clients through privacy and security events.
Bert lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Amanda, two sons, and his English bulldog.
